2. Hypostyle hall — forty-five minutes; twelve central columns dominate; clapper guards discourage shouting due to echo.
3. Obelisks of Hatshepsut and Thutmose — fifteen minutes; best light before 10:00.
4. Festival hall (Akh-menu) — twenty minutes; cooler stone in midday heat.
5. Sacred lake circuit — thirty minutes; benches under mast trees; good family pause.

Conservation closures

Seventh pylon scaffolding cycles every few seasons. Nadia logs closure maps in monthly bulletins for retainer clients; check the on-site board at entry. When a pylon is closed, add ten minutes to hypostyle hall because crowds bottleneck at the open axis.

Sound and light

Evening shows narrate in multiple languages on rotation nights. Winter schedules start around 18:30; summer closer to 20:00. Tickets sell at the Karnak booth and select Luxor hotels. Tripods banned during show—handheld only per photography rules.

Getting there from hotels

East Bank hotels south of Luxor Temple use taxi ten to fifteen minutes; calèche rides are scenic but negotiate price before boarding. Budget routes include microbus from Luxor station when you accept shared waits.

Combine with West Bank?

Do not attempt Karnak morning plus Valley of Kings same day in summer—heat exhaustion risk. Schedule West Bank tombs on a separate dawn day. Upper Egypt continuation to Abu Simbel fits best after two Luxor nights.

Travelers from Alexandria often fly Borg El Arab–Luxor direct in shoulder season; allow one soft day before Karnak walking.
